Rachel Speck, owner of Speck Fitness, received her ballet training from Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, one of the top 5 ballet schools in the entire world, and Miami City Ballet, another top school and professional company. After dancing professionally, and training at some of the best ballet schools in the world, Rachel is one of the top people in the area to acquire outstanding ballet training and technique from.

Speck Fitness offers ballet classes for children 2 1/2-7. Our main focus though, is private training, which is available ages 3 and up. Currently Rachel works with girls from all of the ballet schools in the area on their technique, pointe work, and even competition prep. She works specifically with her students on improving and cleaning their technique. So many schools are just concerned about doing a million pirouettes, but don’t care if it looks good. Rachel goes back to basics and works on turnout, feet, posture and arms, and all the details in a ballerinas technique that make those pirouettes look flawless then. Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, the school where Rachel received her training, is known for having absolutely perfect turnout and technique, which is why most of their dancers become professionals in all of the major ballet companies, and why the school has been around for over 60 years. Rachel uses those same training methods, that she learned over the 12 years she trained there, with her students today.

One of the most important things to becoming a professional ballerina, besides flawless technique, is cross training and conditioning. Most schools either don’t do it at all, or they do the wrong types of exercises for dancers. After Rachel retired from dancing, it became her mission to create a workout specifically for dancers to get stronger and more conditioned but without making them lose their ballerina body. That trademarked workout is called Tendu Toning. Cross training is a very difficult thing to do right with a dancer. So many exercises will strengthen the wrong muscles, or even bulk them, which is very bad for a dancer. With Tendu Toning, Rachel has dancers do exercises very similar to the ones they do in a ballet class, but with added weights, resistance, and repetitions for increased strength and conditioning. With Tendu Toning, dancers will increase flexibility, gain a stronger core, achieve better balance, control their port de bras, get more power and strength in their legs and feet for jumps and pointe, increase their speed and overall control, and so much more. She does private Tendu Toning training with all of the dancers from local ballet and dance schools. She also does master classes at different schools and summer programs.
